Webfomercials

Webfomercials, or Web Advertorials, are the counterpart to television commercials and infomercials. For many applications, television advertising campaigns can be converted into Webfomercials, addng the benefit of interactivity encouraging active participation. They can be considered as a destination in their own right, as contrasted to interstitials or banners. Sample webfomercials are lower in the page.

From a functional context, they are similar to interactive banners and interactive product placement. They differ from the former in that they provide additional information in a larger file size, and from the latter in that the environment is built around the product, rather than the product being integrated into the environment.

PROS Immersive, participatory experience for visitors achieved using animation, sound, video and other multimedia. Entertainment & advertising messages delivered using powerful Web technologies. Information content is much greater than other online advertising methods.

FLASH 2 WEBFOMERCIALS:

Macromedia's Flash 2 is an awesome new technology for Web advertising. Zooming, panning & rotation of text and graphics is supported at extremely small file sizes.

SHOCKWAVE WEBFOMERCIALS:

Shockwave is an excellent choice for Webfomercials that include complex & sophisticated interactivity. Object-oriented programming allows for detailed tracking of user behavior; it has excellent support for all media types, and streaming capabilities mean modem users won't suffer through lengthy downloads.

The following examples are from the Webfomercials area of the Blue Platypus website. These are linear Webfomercials, very similar to 30-second television spots.
